On the other hand, most of X's levels are just easily killable enemies on flat platforms (although I really love Armored Armadillo and Storm Eagle's stages). The levels are also just more appealing overall (Flame Stag's volcano segment is sick, Wheel Gator's stage's presentation is just amazing overall). There's the crushing blocks in Magna Centipede's level, the long slopes in Crystal Snail's level, etc. The fact that the dash is in Chill Penguin's level in X1 and you already have it in X2 changes literally everything: since you can't start a level without it, they can be constructed knowing the fact that you know that move, and it makes for way more interesting levels. Level design: by far is the biggest point for me.

I've always liked Mega Man X, and very much enjoyed my first full playthrough this week, but goddamn to me X2 is just a superior game in almost every conceivable way: I beat Mega Man X and I'm half-way through X2 (still haven't played X3, so I will be focusing on this game for this post). I just started playing the series, I'd played X1 when I was a teenager but I recently picked up the collection to play the other ones.
